The Book of Mormon

Last Sunday the Edwards Collective went to see the Book of Mormon off Broadway. The plotline is hard to sum up but it’s about two young Mormons sent to proselytize in Uganda. It pokes fun but is still respectful – the general message of the play seemed to be to do what makes you happy. It was a meta musical in that the music riffed on lots of Broadway tropes including the representation of Africa (especially in the Lion King). It takes a special kind of talent to make songs so funny as well as musically pleasing.
