A little rain didn’t deter this group from a trip to the Grounds for Sculpture to kick off the year before the start of classes! Edwards Collective members met one other, enjoyed good food and conversation, and started to plan for the year ahead.

Cafe Antoine Exhibit featuring artists Alexandra Ballard, Luke Hamel, and Amalya Megerman
From Amalya Megerman ’16: Artists usually like to make statements that tell people what to see in their work, but I feel that can often cloud or hinder what the observer is able to take away. It can steer the viewer towards a more artificial experience. I’d rather leave the experience all in your hands.… Continue reading Cafe Antoine Exhibit featuring artists Alexandra Ballard, Luke Hamel, and Amalya Megerman

Mathey Does Matisse
On November 22nd, Edwards Collective members joined with others from the Mathey College Community to visit MoMA for the blockbuster exhibition “Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs.” Towards the end of his long and influential career and with failing health, Matisse moved from large painted canvases to collages of fluidly hand-cut paper in an explosion of color. Barksdale Maynard, a Fellow of Mathey College and expert in the architectural history of Princeton’s Campus. Professor Maynard is a Princeton alum and author of Princeton: America’s Campus. He is here as a Lecturer in the Department of… Continue reading A Stroll Through Princeton’s Architecture

A Trip to the Anthology Film Archive in NYC
One of my favorite outings this semester was a trip a few of the Collective members took to Anthology Film Archive in New York, which happens to allow free entry to Princeton students because a fund was set up by one of its co-founders (and Princeton professor) P. Sitney Adams. This is a rather nondescript… Continue reading A Trip to the Anthology Film Archive in NYC
Ballet and Balanchine
On the afternoon of Saturday, September 27th, about eleven collective members (and one alum) met at the Lincoln Center to see The New York City Ballet’s performance of All Balanchine, a showcase of three different selections from Balanchine’s original repertoire. The performance was an excellent mishmash of classical ballet: Beginning with traditional variations from the ballet Donizetti,… Continue reading Ballet and Balanchine
